Hello, my name is Janet Brown-Clayton and welcome to the 2013-2014 school year. As the newly appointed assistant principal of Brennan-Rogers Magnet School, I’m looking forward to working with Dr. DeBlasio and the dedicated staff of professionals that make up the Brennan Rogers family. Our goal is to provide an engaging environment for active learning, growth and development for our children.
I was born in New Haven and raised on Ashmun Street where I attended Winchester Community School, Troup Middle School, and I went on to graduate from Hopkins Grammar School. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Human Services from Lincoln University, a Masters Degree in Early Childhood Education and a Sixth Year degree in Educational Leadership from Southern Connecticut State University. I began my teaching career at Roberto Clemente and Hill Central Schools. I then spent ten years at Sheridan Middle before going into administration for ten years in Hamden and five years in Georgia. In all of my experiences, one solid truth remains: children learn best in an orderly and safe environment where clear expectations are established and maintained.
Parents/Guardians, Teachers, support staff, community and administrators all have an important role in encouraging our children to become life-long learners and contributing members of society. It is my sincere belief that we can create opportunities for our children to acquire the skills necessary to compete from a global perspective. It is exciting to return ‘home’ and serve in the district that helped educate me.
Please be a strong presence at Brennan Rogers and communicate the importance of education by your active engagement. Stop in to introduce yourself, share your praise and concerns, and let’s prepare for a phenomenal school year!
